The Art of Collage on Canvas

I will cover, a brief history of Collage, creating backgrounds and compositions. In this workshop I will teach you the 4 basic structures of composition and how to use your intuition. I will teach a few methods for creating backgrounds, I will touch on copyright laws. I will provide information on the National Collage Society and the International Collage Museum in Cernavaca, Mexico. I will also give tips on how to exhibit and submit your art to juried shows. A Colorful Past

Artist Trading Cards

Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) are miniature art pieces that are exchanged and collected world wide. This class will combine media and textural techniques that lend themselves to the production of ATC series. A variety of inks, paints and resist agents will be used on paper and alternate surfaces to produce 6 to 10 different cards. A template will be provided to create a small decorateve case to hold and showcase your cards. Techniques used on these small canvasses will translate well to many altered art projects. Teasing the Tyvek Tiger

Explore the tempting textural world of Tyvek, but don't let it intimidate you. Tyvek's qualities to act both as a paper and a fabric can appear complex, but are actually simple to master, yet totally addictive. Use this time to create a reference format of what you can and cannot do with Tyvek, which mediums work best for your style, and practice how to control 2-D as well as 3-D sculptural formats. A Workshop in Making Paper Puppet People With Altered Board Book

Taming the Tyvek Tiger

Birds of a Feather

I recently discovered that there are great many people who are infatuated with the mysterious nature of crows or ravens. I have to admit that I am one of them, especially since I am a collector of shiny objects I find in my travels! In this workshop we will be making a colorful journal with handpainted papers, shiny objects, and inspirational words/images. The vibrant pages are the perfect backdrop to our black winged friends and with the addition of shiny objects, it will be real treasure to keep and display. In fact...it will be something to "crow" about .

Found Object Jewelry / Creative Metals 101

This Class explores the unexpected in jewelry making, we will use found objects to create peices of "Wearable Art". Start collecting odds and ends, bottle caps, pieces of plastic, buttons, words and pictures etc... anything goes. We will begin with conditioning the metal to include sanding, filing and incorporating various techniques such as windows, transfers, and mica tiles. We will be riveting and wire-wrapping to create cold connections and possible stapling and torch soldering (depending on fire codes), to put these pieces together. You will make a bracelet, necklace or earrings or all of the above.

Materials Needed for Class: Students are urged to bring a basic metals toolkit including, ball peen hammer, metal or tin-snips , wire-working tools. Just Junque-It!

Attention all hoarders, junk collectors, and finders of lost treasures! If you have an overflowing stash of junque(yup...also known as junk!) it is high time you use some of it! This workshop will cover unique uses for a wide variety of items you may already have as we assemble them into works of art on canvas. Techniques will cover hand painted backgrounds, image transfers, methods of adhering 3D objects onto canvas, and creating niches in canvas. We will also discuss how to build meaning into our pieces. Each student will complete at least one finished canvas...but you are welcome to do more as inspiration flows. I will have a good supply of junque to share, but remember that this is a time to use those items YOU have been saving for something special in the name of art! So go look in your basement, your yard, the desk, deep in your artroom, a toolshed, your jewelry box....and don't forget the kitchen junk drawer!! Even if you're not sure what it is...what the heck...just junque it!
